Ms. Freada’s Garden
Sewing 101

The HodgePodgery is a very cozy homelike atmosphere. We will supply a sewing machine, iron, ironing board, scissors, thread and other sewing tools you will learn about. Please feel free to bring your own machine and we HIGHLY recommend you bring your own so that you can get the feel of your machine.

In this class you will learn….

1st class- Sewing machine 101- bring 1 yard of fabric to class
Learn how to use your machine, discuss fabric textures and create a standard sized envelope pillow case

Homework- Go to a fabric store and pick up a drawstring pajama pants pattern that was indicated to you by the instructor in class one.  You will bring this pattern to class number 2 for discussion.

2nd class- Basic Apron- bring 1 yard of fabric to class
Create a basic apron, learn pockets, straps and attachment techniques. You will now learn how to read the back of your pattern so that you may buy the proper amount of fabric for class 3

3rd class- Basic drawstring pajama pants. – bring amount of fabric indicated on your pattern for your size as well as a drawstring. We suggest Simplicitypattern 2503

Using the pattern you purchased, you will learn to read a pattern, cut out the pattern, measure for size and pin and assemble. At the end of the class you will discuss adding flair to your creations. The last class will be catered to the specific decoration skills you want to learn. Discuss with the teacher at this time.

4th class- Finishing Touches- bring previously discussed materials
At the fabric store you will see buttons, appliqués, patches and fun fabrics. At this time, you may add some flair to your basic creations! Bring in your pillow case, your apron and your skirt or pants. Now it is time to add jazz. Learn techniques to add flair to your basic projects. You will learn how to add a ruffle, add a transfer or whatever you previously discussed and shown interest in with the instructor.

If you have not finished a project, you may also finish your project at this time.

Do you feel that you would like to learn more? We will be offering project classes and specific sewing detail classes such as zippers and alterations in the near future.  Please join me again for a fun filled day or evening of sewing.

Thank you again and we hope you enjoy your classes.

Much Love,

Ms. Freada

For anyone out there thinking about taking this class – DO IT! It’s an awesome class, Ms. Freada is a great instructor – she is fun and takes her time with you , you get 1 on 1 attention if you need it. Just from the weekly classes taken with her at The Hodegpodgery, I have been able to make so many other projects, just based on the building basics I learned from this class. Have no hesitation, its worth every penny and you will LEARN A LOT!

Is there a limit on how many classes I have to take?
Basically I just want to learn the sewing machine all over again, I learned to sew in 1976 on a machine that was already 5 years old AT THAT TIME. I haven’t been on a machine since 1979. So basically I want to learn how to use the machine all over again. I’m thinking the basic class might help me get familar with my new machine?

You are not required or restricted to taking the 4 classes. However, those who sign up for all 4 are given priority. At this point Evening classes for April and May are full. We do have spots open for daytime. We can also make arrangements for classes alternate evenings, especially if you have a friend or two who also might want to do a refresher. If you can do day time we can get you in April. Ms Freada is great with getting you familiar with your machine. It also helps to bring the manual along because machines can be so different! We hope to hear from you soon!

Are there still day spots available for May? Is there a waiting list or a sign up for June? Thanks!
