Come on aboard with GoTeam HoPo!!

Join us for some crazy cool fundraisers to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society! Dawn is up for Woman of the Year and every penny we raise counts as a vote! The heck with settling for Central PA’s Woman of the Year…The HodgePodgery is shooting for NATIONAL!!

Our very first event is for you graphically inclined souls. Chatterbox Marketing is doing a t-shirt contest entries should be in by Friday March 4th, the top 5 designs chosen March 7th which will be available to order. Grand Prize winner is determined by sales totals as of Thurs MARCH 31st. Proceeds from t-shirt sales/votes benefit LLS.

ENTRIES are now being accepted for The Mantis Gallery’s FIVEbySEVEN event to benefit LLS. Entries must be received by SatMarch 12th. The exhibit begins with an Opening Reception 8-10 pm Fri MARCH 18th (3rd in the Burg) and closes Sun March 27th.

Thursday MARCH 17 – St Patty’s Day “Kegs ‘n Eggs” at Shady McGrady‘s! 7-10 am $5 a plate eat in or take out. Food donated by John Gross & Co and Delivery Service by Harrisburg Bike Taxi. Call Tuesday or Wednesday for large order delivery! 717-236-0150

SundayAPRIL 3rd 2pm – 10pm Central PA INK-A-THON. With the help of Ryan Spahr from Black Thorn Gallery we’ve put together a TATTOO event at The Maennerchor . Music provided all day by Cashmere Entertainment. $5 at the door. Tattoo prices vary. Shops participating at the event and/OR their own studios: 717 tattoos, Redbeard Ink, Brass Monkey, and Dyers Eve CALL INDIVIDUAL SHOPS FOR APPOINTMENTS Please specify “Ink-a-thon” so your donation can be recorded.

SundayAPRIL 3rd 8-10pm CABARET of Talent! MC’d by our friend Bailey and graciously hosted by Stage on Herr you’ll have your chance to BUY FAME! A minimum $20 donation gets you 5-10 minutes on stage. Saturday APRIL 9th and 16th. Parent & Kid Class! Kid.Art.Love This two part class is an intro to Photo Collage. Ages 3-7 11apm-1pm and ages 8-12 2pm to 4pm. The price is $40 bring your own camera. Sunday April 10th noon til 4 pm on City Island is the 2nd annual Paws for a Cure Petwalk hosted by Abrams and Weakley Thanks to last year’s winner Kristen Zellner for continuing this puppy filled fundraising extravaganza!!

Last but never least on SUNDAY APRIL 17th, 3-9pm the culmination of our fundraising events is the First Everrrr Bacon & Brew Ha Ha at the Abbey Bar !! “Jersey” Mike of Greenbelt Events is busy plotting our “Everything’s Better with Bacon” recipe and Home Brew contest. Area chefs will be doing the judging. Not only will we honor bacon and all it’s glory, but we will also be honoring BEER! Yessireeee! Home brewers are invited to enter a Sixtel or six pack of HOME BREWED Beer, hard cider or rootbeer. Jersey promises to have brew masters from several area microbrews here to judge the contest. $10 registration fee for contestants for each event. $10 door fee to benefit LLS. I have to admit, the HoPoCo are some of the most giving and creative people I know. They are simply good people. I know for a fact that the things here in the shop are made with a lot of love and caring. It always makes me smile when new things come in, and makes me sad when things leave.

No matter what, when asked, our people always step up to help out and with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Woman of the Year fundraising campaign it’s no different. There are so many things too choose from on the Donation table and more to come! (more pics and info on Flickr )

Hello to all our HoPoCo, loyal customers, Twitterati, facebook friends and all our business buddies!

Well, I have a little announcement to make and then a HUGE favor to ask of all YOU! I have been nominated for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Woman of the Year for 2011. Yeah. Wow. I am simply flabbergasted. Our friend Kristen Zellner of Abrams and Weakley General Store for Animals was the Central PA Winner last year! Kristen and her team raised some insane amount of money to go on and win 2010 Woman of the Year for Central PA! Kristen, in her mad, crazy, what the heck was SHE thinkin’ nominated yours truly. As one of the nominees, it is my duty to raise as much moola as possible to contribute to a cure for the myriad of blood cancers known as Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma. As one of the nominees, it is also my sworn duty to pull in as MANY of my friends as possible to HELP to raise some crazy, never before seen amount of contributions! You know The HodgePodgery. You KNOW we are going to have a FABULOUS time doing this! We will kick fund raising BUTT!!

I am currently building a team of people to help in the HoPo’s campaign. These individuals are dynamic in so many different ways and I simply cannot wait to see what they come up with! I am also really looking forward to meeting the Boy and Girl of the Year…You know how the HoPo loves sharing creativity with the young ‘uns! These cool kids are going to have a busy time ahead of them! I think they will be the toast of the town, so get ready to celebrate life!

The 2011 campaign kicks off February 24th and runs to April 21st.

We will be gearing up and getting our fundraisers planned out and ready to go, so that when the 8 week fund drive starts, we will be goin’ out there a hellin’!

If you or your business would like to be one of The HoPo’s sponsors, I’d love to hear from you! Like The HodgePodgery, this is a joint effort among the most amazing people I know. I would like to have members of my team from all over Central PA, but of course, we will take donations from all over the world!! There will be a webpage set up that you can direct people to that will accept donations directly….BEGINNING February 24th. No money can be accepted prior to the kick off date, so start saving your pennies now!!

In donating your time, money and/or talent, not only are you helping to find cures for the various blood cancers, you directly touch the lives of cancer patients and their families. I really don’t know a soul who has not known someone affected by some form of cancer. Personally my losses have been great. Living the day to day is important. Bringing hope, peace of mind, financial assistance, and education to families affected NOW is just as important as cures in the future. I am honored, inspired and eager to help raise awareness, as well as dollars.

So. Watch for some really cool, rocking things this spring: craft events, art auctions, concerts, fashion shows, food events and who the heck knows WHAT else we will come up with!

The gauntlet is thrown, help me to win this challenge!

WOW!! What a YEAR!!

It is hard to believe we are at the end of 2009. I know. Everyone says the same thing, but for Jessica and me, it has been one strange year. Last year at this time, I was laid up after having had knee surgery on the 29th. I was reflecting on having been off throughout the Holidays, thankful for a lot of things in my life including an extremely supportive boyfriend in addition to my 4 kids. All we really knew of 2009 was that in a few weeks, I’d be heading back to work driving a truck, we’d be going to New Orleans for vacation in the spring, and Jessica would be getting married in June.

Flash Forward to Lunchtime at Taj Palace Thursday April 23rd… I had injured myself AGAIN earlier in the week and was meeting Jessica for lunch. It all started so innocently. ”Instead of just sitting around for the next few months WE SHOULD…” and so it began. A simple lunch brainstorm of a discussion between slightly OCD/ADD mother and daughter and next you know we are looking for the future site of a little shop ultimately known as The HodgePodgery. From there you all have been able to follow our progress through our blogs and to this final, albeit fairly quiet day of 2009. At this point we have over 130 active consignors who have collectively sold over $28,000 worth of their creations in 5 short months. No one would have guessed that our whimsical little idea would have developed such a following and generated such a buzz in Central PA. We want to express our love and thankfulness to those of you who had enough faith in us to hand over your handmade heart-filled wares to fill this shop with such amazingly fun things. We also want to thank all of you who have walked through these doors, by design, by whim, by accident, on business, in support of friends, because you saw us on Twitter, Craigslist, FaceBook, heard of us at a craft show, art show, bar, saw us in a newspaper, on a website, TV, flyer in a restroom, read an article, blurb or business card, spoke with an old friend, received a unique gift, took a class and/or passed along some info and spread some gossip about an interesting little shop in Midtown Harrisburg. We love you and are eternally grateful for all you have given to our spirit of adventure and this, our spirited venture in 2009!

To everyone who has come across our path and to all that will be steered our way in the future…

Coffee on a Sunday Morning

It’s early on a Sunday morning, I’m actually relaxing for once, not feeling I have to get out the door right away. (ok, truth be told I still FEEL like I need to, but refusing to give in to said feeling) I just made my coffee, which I rarely get to savor these days. Looks like another beautiful spring day. Yes, I understand it’s nearing the end of July, but Central PA is having unseasonably cool albeit gaaaawwwgeous weather, hence the “Spring” feeling. Hmmmm, I sure feel the need to explain my feelings to you people.

Anyhow, dear readers, it’s been a fabulous week! Soft opening Friday evening when Jess and I were both at the shop just felt “right”, yes, I could technically have sold a few things beforehand, but personally, I really wanted to share that with her. A pair of women were peeking in the windows and like I had been doing the past few days, I invited them in for a sneak preview. Their enthusiasm was just what we hoped for! They were THRILLED when we “allowed” them to make their purchases! They were wonderful! A few minutes later, two more were at the window… I see a trend here.

For those of you who are HodgePodgery-ists and those of you who are considering it, the timing for this is so perfect. About 3 weeks ago, Stage on Herr opened up right behind us. It is an artsy bar with local live music, a fantastic 5-7 Happy Hour, Wed open Mic nights, Indie bands, a “First Saturday” Art Flea Market and FANTASTIC Bloody Marys a la an old school mate of mine, Scott Mitsdarfer. Local art work hangs on the wall. Gary and John (owners extraordinaire) smile and wave as they trek by our windows. I don’t know what they were expecting of Jess and my little shop, but they are embracing us more eagerly as the days go on!

I hope you all can come by this week before everything is sold. It’s just a matter of time, you know. I really think you should come in groups. We’d have loved to have organized a formal open house, but I simply don’t see it happening before Tuesday. I seriously think you should just get a bunch of friends, and just come down for an afternoon.

Ok…I need your stuff. NOW! I am getting it together, I want to be open as soon as we get the permits this week. All the Hardware and Software is being cooperative, finally. The painting still needs finished, but that’s a non-issue. It’s only cleaning, tidying and displaying so, let’s get all the goods, guys! I must confess, it is like it’s my birthday EVERY DAY right now! I get packages in the mail, people stop by, teeheeheeheee! (Alex McCarty, of “Hello, Bluebird!“…girl, you have so much to look forward to!) Speaking of which, Alex and Corey’s shop will be opening inWest Reading sometime in August. Her shop will be “pretty and girlie” so, I’m sending some of my HodgePodger-ists her way as well!

Well, since I snuck over to work on a few things, I have to get back home to go to M’s parents for dinner. More pics later this week, and HOPEFULLY a new look for my website thanks to Tara the wunderkind girl Social Media guru of handmadeinpa.net and a host (hee heee I said “host”) of a few more hot handmade sites.

OH! Almost forgot! Jess should be landing any minute!! YAY!

The Wedding was a HOOT! Now, Back to Reality

Wow! What fun! As soon as I get some really good pics together, I’m sure we will be doing a post…now down to business. I look to be in and out of the shop most of this week after today (had steroid injection in my lower lumbar, so I need to let the meds…errrrrrmmm….marinate my discs.) I haven’t been to the shop since last Wednesday, so when I go in tomorrow, I can assess the painting that needs done, and how the carpeting turned out. My boys are all home, so at some point this week we will be getting furniture from State Surplus and moving in the equipment, getting the credit card terminal hooked up as well as the wi-fi, etc. Of course I still have doctor appointments and physical therapy to work around which is ongoing for the forseeable future. I’m so ready to get back to the excitement of getting this off the ground! Jessica has a “normal” week this week and then leaves on her honeymoon on Friday.

Shouldn't Blog When I am Sleepy

I know I shouldn’t, but it’s been awhile. I am not gonna even TRY for a gardening metaphor. I have sat at this here MiniMac for several hours today with intentions of writing to all you wonderful friends, but Twitter and other sites got in the way! You know how it is! Everyone has links to follow and that leads to more links and before you know it, pfffft it is 10:22 at night and you haven’t gotten a whole heck of a lot accomplished! Ok, so I lie. I did take M to the doctor ( he had bloodwork done and is going for a CT Scan Friday) I dropped him back at work and scooted over to the shop. No one was working because Home Depot did NOT deliver all the goods!! We won’t get into it, but it is one of those left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing and the promised schedule was not as promised, etc etc etc. So, my guy had the day off and he is fighting for them to deliver tomorrow morning.

I am totally stoked to meet some of the tweeps and peepsI have been tweeting and talking and e-mailing! To think, this is just the first of many! We have people coming from twitter, HACC, postings on Craigslist (shhh) flyers on the store windows, at market, at ABC. I think I have maybe 15 confirmed (?) cool, eh?

I will be happy to e-mail it out! We are waiving the $20 registration for any consignor who consigns with us before our grand opening. (target date for the Gala Grand Opening is July 11, but may be later) We will be OPEN Mid to late June, but with Jessica getting married and a host of other things we won’t have our big to-do until later. dtaes are funny things, aren’t they? I almost feel like the software people who promise the new updates, but keep pushing ‘em back…

I really don’t know what to expect tomorrow. I hope people come,, I hope they have fun, and I hope they mingle and get goofy! I am really looking forward to when we can have something at the store. Things are going so fast!
