3rd in the Burg

The Harrisburg Arts community now has its very own night of the month! Lancaster, York, and Philly have their “First Fridays” but on Friday March 19,  2010 you have your next date with Harrisburg, PA!  The THIRD FRIDAY of each month is 3rd in the Burg! Harrisburg’s artsy folk have pulled together for our very own night. We want you to gather up your friends and families and discover our gems. We have such a fabulous array of new voices in art we simply do not want you to miss out!

For March’s 3rd in the Burg, the HodgePodgery will be featuring Caricature Drawing by Linsdsey McClellan.  Prices are listed below, but we highly recommend that you sign up in advance to guarantee your spot. We will start taking reservations asap. She will be here from 6-9pm.

Lindsey can do single caricatures or double caricatures.  She can also work from pictures so give a fun wedding gift, anniversary gift, birthday gift or just for fun gift to your friends and family. Prices are listed below.

Black and white 10 dollars  or Black and white (2 people) 15 dollars

Color 15 dollars or Color (2 people) 20 dollars

GETTING AN EARLY START:

You can start 3rd in the Burg in Harrisburg at noon with the monthly FREE Coffee Cupping (mmmm coffee tasting!!) at The Midtown Scholar. Be sure to stroll upstairs to the Yellow Wall Gallery’s exhibit ”Summer in the Winter: A Visual Escape” within this  incredible used book store and coffee shop.

For lunch in Midtown, walk two blocks North to Breads n Spreads at 1419 N 3rd , or up to Reilly St for pho at Vietnamese Garden or to 263 Reilly for Italian at Nonna’s. If you’d prefer the Southern route on 3rd St in Midtown there’s China Taste,  Mercado’s pizza and our personal favorite The Soup Spot at 912 N 3rd. THE HODGEPODGERY opens at 11 am and the demos begin at 4pm.

ITINERARY SOUTH FROM THE HOPO:

Head SOUTH down 3rd St  to Café di Luna for coffee, tea or a delicious locally baked goodies. Next door, trade in your jeans at Blue Horse Denim for a discount on a stylin’ new pair.You could head down a few blocks more to Susan Schreckengaust’s Arts at 510 for Woodblock Prints by Dan Clarke and Music by 510 Express from 5:10  til 7:10. Walk toward the river by way of North Street and drop in Mangia Qui for a delicious dinner or tapas on the 2nd floor at Suba’s. On exhibit there are Photographs by Matthew Murray and a featured $5 drink “Velvet Underground” 5-10.  Sprama Design at 308 N 2nd St  Sprama Gallery features “Urban Boulevard” a collection of Street Art and Design and  The ArtHouse Lounge at 217 N 2nd, is featuring 12 new artists and on-site caricatures by Neil McMillin 6-9pm.

ITINERARY NORTH FROM THE HOPO:

Head NORTH on 3rd St to the Midtown Scholar for their 6-9pm reception for “Summer in Winter:A Visual Escape” featuring local artists. You could also go further North to 1633 N. 3rd St. where Gallery Blu has their FIRST anniversary celebration featuring “Art of the Neighborhood” from Midtown & other local artists. Music by Drake 7-9pm . You may end your evening at HMAC’s Stage on Herr. Colebrook Road is playing until 2 am, surrounded by original artworks throughout.

    I’m really looking forward to the first ever 3rd in ‘da burg ! Glad there is finally an official site up: http://www.3rdintheburg.com

    And it’s great to see so much participation from so many venues ! Go Midtown!
